'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' Mesmerizes

Hartland High School Drama Club follows author's advice to broaden appeal of story.

"A children's story that can only be enjoyed by children is not a good children's story in the slightest." - C.S. Lewis Lewis didn't disappoint with The Chronicles of Narnia series and neither did the Hartland High School Drama Club with Friday's opening of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe at the school's theater. A packed audience of children, teens and adults readily suspended disbelief to enter the world of Narnia, where animals talk, witches are queens and a wise and selfless lion named Aslan (performed by Zak Malott) is the savior. "My favorite part of being this character is being a Jesus allegory," Malott said. "It's really ironic for me to be playing it, cause I'm nothing like Jesus." My daughter and I were there Friday night as well. Our favorite part was when one of the little mice lost her ears and announced "my ears, my ears. Mom my ears!!". The only thing was my daughter had worked on the table in set crew and felt most people missed it when the table broke and he came back to life. Role Play: Drama Club Enters the Land of Narnia

Hartland High School features 'The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe' this weekend.

The make-believe land of Narnia won't be quite as far, far away this weekend when the Hartland High School Drama Club takes its roles as the woodland creatures of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. The stage version of C.S. Lewis' classic novel will be performed at the Hartland High School theater, opening 7:30 p.m. Friday with shows following at 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday. Student and senior tickets are $9; adult tickets are $11. This is the drama club's first production of the school year and director Brian Richardson's first year of solo directing and everyone is eager to go.
