GOP Hopefuls Share Visions for Economic Recovery on OU Stage

Eight presidential candidates talk jobs, housing, health care, taxes — and character.

Eight Republican presidential hopefuls took turns offering their thoughts on all aspects of the economy — and faith and trust — on the stage of a transformed O'rena on the campus of Oakland University on Wednesday night. In a nationally televised debate coordinated by the Michigan Republican Party, the university and CNBC, candidates Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Jon Huntsman, Ron Paul, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney and Rick Santorum sparred on issues related to money, jobs, housing and taxes. Here at Hartland Patch, we've been working to provide one-stop shopping for information about candidates in local races and their views on the Hartland area. Today, we feature the contest to represent District 1 on the Livingston County Commission, where incumbent Republican Maggie E. Jones is facing Libertarian John Hargenrader and write-in Nancy A. Election Guide: Clerk Provides Absentee Ballot Overview

Mail deadline for requests is 2 p.m. Saturday.

Absentee ballot requests through the mail must be made by 2 p.m. Saturday for Tuesday's upcoming election. The clerk's office at Hartland Township Hall, 2655 Clark Road, will be open from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday to accept final mail requests. Voters can request absentee ballots in person at the clerk's office until 4 p.m. Monday. Absentee voters can return the ballots to the clerk's office until 8 p.m. on Election Day.
