Hartland Lady Eagles Lose Heartbreaker in Regional Final

The girls basketball team falls to Ann Arbor Huron with a score of 48-40.

The Hartland Lady Eagles lost a heartbreaker in the regional finals with a score of 48-40 to Ann Arbor Huron Thursday night. The Eagles jumped out to a quick 6-2 lead in the opening minutes led by Lindsey Pajot. Ann Arbor Huron came back utilizing full court pressure to take a 13-8 lead at the end of the first quarter.  Huron turned up the pressure in the second quarter which disrupted the Eagle offense. With a full court press and double teaming Bailee Maggert each time she touched the ball limited Hartland to six points in the second quarter. The River Rats took a 22-14 lead into the locker room at the half.  Hartland came out on fire in the third quarter lead by Bailee Maggert and Lindsey Pajot. Bailee hit two 3-pointers from beyond the…

What a winter season for Hartland sports! Regional Finals for Womens Basketball, Great 8 for Mens Hockey, State Semis for Wrestling and Cheer...what do all these teams have in common? Senior leadership. Daavettila, Maggert, Conner, Charneski to name a few. Teams that are successful have seniors who step up. Teams that are successful have coaches who understand this. Photo Gallery: Lady Eagles Fight For Tough Win Over Novi

The Hartland girls basketball team wins with a final score of 51-44.

The Hartland girls basketball team came out with a win on Wednesday night against Novi with a score of 51-44 during the consolation game in the KLAA Tournament at Hartland High School. The lady Eagles played tough and physical in a game that remained close in score throughout much of the play time. At half time, however, the Eagles were in the lead with a score of 19-14 and never looked back. During the second half, the Eagles began to pull away and gain the momentum and in the end, according to coach Don Palmer, it came down to experience. “I think it was a quality win,” Palmer said. “Novi ended their season 15 and 5 and they won their division, so they played pretty tough tonight. We had to earn everything we got and I think it got down …

Hartland Girls Basketball Overruns Holly

Defense powers Eagles to 55-29 win.

In retrospect, it was over by halftime. Sophomore Kim Baker's three pointer at the end of the second period extended the lead to 17 and the Hartland High School girls basketball team never looked back winning 55-29 over Holly to remain unbeaten. "Kimmy Baker hit that big three at the half and you're thinking, 'Well it's 17 as opposed to 14,' and that's a big thing mentally, anytime you get scored on (before the half)," Hartland head coach Don Palmer said. The Eagles (5-0) dominated the Bronchos in each quarter thanks in part to a stifling defense that held Holly to only 16 first-half points and 13 in the second. "For the most part, we did a good job on 23 (Holly's Ashley Xiong) and 43 (Allyssa Copely)," Palmer said. "I think anytime …

Hartland Girls Basketball Preps for Season Opener

Team looks to do well following strong season despite losing key seniors, height disadvantage.

The Hartland varsity girls basketball team expects to be good like last year but maybe not right away. The Eagles, who open the season 7 p.m. Friday at Fenton, lost five seniors including three starters and they are a smaller squad this season — literally. "We're short, so we're going to have to be defensively a threat, and we're also going to have to put our offense to work, but mostly defense," said Bailee Maggert, a third-year varsity player. " We also have to be in shape because we are probably one of the shortest teams in the (conference)." But this year's team is confident about improving on last season's 17-7 record and district title. "I do think that this team is going to be a good team," said Coach Don Palmer. "I just don't …
