What is in the Hartland Museum?

A trip to 3503 Avon St. is a walk back in time; the museum's winter hours are 1-3 p.m. on Sundays.

A trip to the Florence B. Dearing Museum, is a walk into Hartland’s past. Behind the “big green doors” at the museum, 3503 Avon St., are reminders both big and small of the area’s history. One of the first things people see is a wooden cabinet of post office boxes. And museum volunteers are quick to point out that the wooden floor bears oil stains from leaky fire engines. The oil stains are from the time the building served as the local government offices, and the fire station, said Treasurer Barbara Krueger, of the Hartland Area Historical Society. As the fire trucks became larger as years went by, they were stored in increasingly larger areas of the building. A unique item in the front of the museum is a Cromaine Crafts weaving loom. …

Hartland Administrator Files Civil Suit Against Argentine Township, Police Officer

Assistant Principal Tracey Sahouri, of Hartland High School, claims she was 'falsely and maliciously and intentionally' accused of a crime in underage drinking incident.

Former Creekside Elementary Principal Tracey Sahouri has filed a civil lawsuit against Argentine Township and one of its police officers, the Livingston County Daily Press & Argus reported today. Sahouri filed the suit in January, alleging she was "falsely and maliciously and intentionally" accused of having committed a crime. This involved a case that Genesee County dismissed, in which Sahouri and her husband, Raed Sahouri, were accused of allowing underage drinking at their child's graduation party at their home in Argentine Township. On Tuesday, Hartland Patch reported the Board of Education is considering non-renewal of Sahouri's contract as an administrator, and placing her in a teaching position beginning with the 2012-13 school year…

Hartland Students Express Themselves During World Language Week

High school and middle school language students learned about world cultures during the annual event.

Elizabeth Mitchell of the Michigan Opera Theatre began studying voice when she was 16. Now she’s a mezzo-soprano singer — and opera singers don’t use microphones. Hartland High School students learned this and more during a Hartland World Language Week session Tuesday. This year’s World Language Week theme is “Express Yourself.” Students from Hartland Middle School at Ore Creek also attended the opera performance. Eighth-grader Austin Ballou had never seen opera, and it was completely different from what he expected, Ballou said. “They didn’t wear Viking hats, and I honestly thought they were using a microphone, but they weren’t. They were just really loud and high-pitched, in a good way.” The Michigan Opera Theatre singers’ performance …

Hartland Eagles to Wrestle for Team Regional Championship Tomorrow

Tournament is at 5:30 p.m. at Waterford Mott; Eagles will wrestle Farmington Hills Harrison in semis.

About a decade ago, Hartland wrestlers like Austin Eicher and Jacob Gorial were beginning their careers in the Hartland Wrestling Club. Tomorrow, they could help the Eagles win their 12th straight regional championship. Coach Todd Cheney credits his program's success to wrestlers' strong background in the Hartland Wrestling Club, which he coaches, and the middle school wrestling program. Wednesday's regional team meet will be held at Waterford Mott at 5:30 p.m., with Hartland matching up against Farmington Hills Harrison in the semifinals. If they win that match, they will face the winner of the other semifinal match — Clarkston or Birmingham Seaholm. The winner of the two semifinals will face each other in the regional championship match …

I would not call it "great"...the regional championship team; competitive team, loaded with talent, exciting to watch..but it took a 45 foot heave from the backup center or they would have been out in the first round. Last year, they finished 3-7 in division play and a 10-12 record overall. This, with a true DI player on the roster, which most schools in MI don't have. Yes, thank you coach for …   more ›
