Hartland Golf Takes First Win Over Howell

Hartland Golf results for Wednesday, April 18.

The Hartland golf team came away with their first win on Wednesday at Dunham Hills with an ending score of 156-169. "I was very proud of our guys for being consistent and steady in our first match of the year," golf coach Nathan Oake wrote in an email. "I was especially happy for freshman Bryce Messner who shot 39 in his first varsity competition, and for senior Derek Andreen for shooting 40 in the first varsity competition of his senior year. "I paired these two together hoping for the best, and they kept each other upbeat and positive all day long. "Howell is a very solid golf team, who we will certainly have to work hard to compete with next week and in the post season tournaments. Coach Billups has done a terrific job with his program…

Hartland Golfers Stay Positive As They Start Tough Division Race

Season opener against Howell takes place Wednesday night.

The six golf teams that make up the KLAA West division are some of toughest in the state, according to Hartland High School coach Nathan Oake who calls his division a “hotbed for high school golf.” “I think the whole KLAA West is tough, to be honest,” Oake said. “That’s six good golf teams with the addition of Grand Blanc two years ago. There’s times we’ve gone through our season with 4 of those 6 teams ranked in the top ten of the state of Michigan.” With such a competitive division, the eight-year coach and his twelve varsity players know not to take any team lightly and stay focused throughout their season as they look to accomplish their season goals. “We don’t look past anybody, ever,” Oake said. “We have to take it one day at a time …

Freshman Golf Team Wins Tournament

Hartland's young golfers win the Saline Freshman Invitational with a score of 333.

Hartland took five freshman to the annual Saline Freshman Invitational and won the tournament by 22 shots, according to coach Nathan Oake. The five-person team won with a score of 333 on Friday. The Clarkston golf team came in second place with a score of 355. Hartland also had the co-Medalists in the tournament with Bryce Messner and Beau Breault each shooting 82 for the low scores of the day. The tie was broken via a scorecard playoff with Messner being honored as the eventual medalist and Breault taking second place. Hartland's John Nagel finished third with 84, and Baker Stevenson finished 5th with 85. Mickey Feeny's score of 90 was good for 13th place overall in the 13 team, 65 player event.
