Located on 75 acres of land between Hacker and Cullen Roads the church's director of operations Mark Freego said that the organization is hoping to be able to start construction this summer. With a square footage of more than 38,000 feet, Freego said the larger space would be able to better accommodate their growing ministry. “We’re excited and I think it’s going to be a real benefit to the community,” Freego said. While the site plan is still in the early stages of a three-tiered plan development phase, …

Hartland officials approved a proposal for a of a two-year extension with sheriff's department with no cost increase.
After a Feb. 13 county commission finance meeting where Hartland’s road patrol contracts were called into question, Hartland and Tyrone Townships announced on Thursday they have approved a proposal for a two-year extension with the Livingston County Sheriff's Department's contract to provide 24-hour road patrol in both communities, with no cost increases. According to a press release, the townships are requiring that Livingston County hold the current annual contract cost at $309,294 or $154,647 per township, for the next two years giving the townships time to study and determine whether the costs of the contract balance with the benefits. “There is no question that deputies assigned specifically to our townships have provided a higher …

The Township will be collecting donated items on an ongoing basis and will be sending out regular shipments to overseas troops.
In 2001, at the age of 21, David Horning, a Hartland graduate and son of Hartland Treasurer Kathie Horning left on his first deployment just two weeks after 9/11. Saying good-bye to her oldest child and sending him off to war was a moment the Hartland official says she will never forget. “I'm holding his hand in the elevator... you feel like you're in gas chamber almost. You don’t want to leave things unsaid but you also don’t want to make it sound like you're never going to see them again,” Kathie Horning said. Twelve years and five deployments later, David Horning is now an Apache helicopter pilot stationed in Kandahar, Afghanistan and although his mother says deployments do get slightly easier, she never forgets where her son is at …

Hartland Township is currently in contract negotiations with Livingston County over road patrol and full time deputies.
For the past four decades, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department has provided road patrol services with full-time deputies in Hartland and Tyrone Townships but due to rising costs, renewing the contracts, which expire in March, may be in jeopardy. Livingston County Commissioner Dave Domas, who represents parts of Hartland and all of Tyrone Township, said that the growing population and changing needs of public safety have contributed to an almost 40 percent cost increase that the townships are not used to paying under their current contract. The current five-year contract is estimated at $152,000 per year per township, according to a story from the Press and Argus. Renewal of the contacts came under discussion during the Feb. 13 …

During Tuesday night’s Hartland Township meeting, resident Barb Krueger addressed the board of trustees requesting an update to a concern regarding a local game preserve that shares a border with one of Hartland’s elementary schools. Variety Farms Game Preserve, located at 11585 Dunham Road, is open to the public and provides an area of fields and forests for bird hunters. It is also located in close proximity to Round Elementary and according to Township Manager James Wickman, the preserve has been in existence since before special use permits were required. Residents can expect new signage and monitoring of intersection.
Despite one local woman’s efforts to see improvements made to an intersection where just weeks ago was a scene of a fatal accident, the Livingston County Road Commission (LCRC) has decided against installing any additional streetlights in the near future. Adrienne Conner of Hartland had initiated a request to have a streetlight installed on the corner of Clyde and Fenton Roads to help with visibility and improve the safety conditions after a recent fatal accident. However, based off of statistics supplied by the Livingston County Road Commision, the intersection has had only seven accidents in the past five years, which equates to a relatively low frequency based on the high traffic volumes, according to Hartland Township Public Works …
