'Hunger Games' DVD Comes Out Saturday

Wal-Mart will also get in on the excitement by hosting a midnight release party, 11-11:59 p.m. Aug. 17 in Hartland.

The Hunger Games DVD isn't scheduled to be released until tomorrow, but the Walmart in Hartland is celebrating it late Friday night. There's no telling how well the DVD will sell, but having broken several records during its opening weekend in North America, the odds are in the film's favor. If you find yourself unable to wait to borrow a copy from a library, Wal-Mart stores are selling the film at midnight, hosting midnight release parties across the country, including the store in Hartland. Starting at 11 p.m., Wal-Mart says its parties will feature exclusive content airing in-store, movie trivia and more. I’ve been waiting for the Hunger Games to be released on video all summer, I missed the theatrical release, but I think the video version will be better with all the extra scenes and features. I’m glad I added it to my Blockbuster @Home queue so I won’t have to wait to get it in the mail. POLL: What Age Is Too Young to See 'The Hunger Games'?

Blockbuster film opening this week raises sensitive question for some parents.

Ladies and gentlemen, let The Hunger Games begin on screens near you. Tickets are on sale for Friday's 12:01 a.m. debut of the thriller based on the lead book in Suzanne Collins' young adult trilogy. It opens nationally that day in 4,000 theaters and is sure to be a box office smash. Actually, that was a more insightful point than I was making :-) It didn't even occur to me that by toning down the details of the violence, the movie may unintentionally glamourize what should remain horrific.   more ›
