A 4-3 defeat to the Highlanders disappoints team
GENOA TOWNSHIP — The Hartland High School boys varsity hockey team lost a competitive see-saw battle to divisional rival Howell 4-3 Wednesday at the Grand Oaks Ice Arena. The game's momentum shifted back and forth until Howell sophomore Casey O'Doherty scored the game-winning goal with 6:21 left in the third period. The win gives the Highlanders a 7-1 overall record and 3-0 in the West Division of the Kensington Lakes Activities Association while Hartland drops to 5-3-1 overall and 4-1-1 in the division. A heartbreaking 4-3 loss in the regional finals last year has a young Hartland High School hockey team filled with high expectations for the 2010 season. Last year's leading scorers, Zack Bodziak and Nick Manley, will serve as captain and co-captain, respectively, and will lead a high-powered Eagles' offense. Bodziak, a senior winger, finished last season with 32 points. "We're a much younger team this year and we're willing to work hard to achieve our goals.
