Police say Livingston County residents should be careful when approached by solicitors.
The Livingston County Sheriff's Department is reminding county residents to be careful when dealing with people offering solitation services and warning against potential scam situatuions. On May 6, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint from an elderly Putnam resident of a fraudulent driveway seal coating company operating in the area. The woman told police that a man had approached offering to seal her driveway for $9,400 and also offered her a warrenty and told her he would start immediately, according to a press release from the sheriff's department. Mark Grabowski is suspected of soliciting Livingston County Jail five inmates to kill four people.
Mark Grabowski, the Hartland Township father who served jail time for kidnapping his son, Conner, is suspected of soliciting five inmates of the Livingston County Jail to kill four people, according to the Press & Argus. Sheriff Bob Bezotte told the newspaper that detectives investigated whether Grabowski tried to solicit a “hit man” to kill the mother of his son, his attorney, the Circuit Court judge and prosecutor who handled his felony case. No further details were provided, according to the report. Scott Alan Stead pleaded guilty in a case involving more than $160K worth of fraudulent warranty computer replacement parts.
A 55-year-old Hartland Township man pleaded guilty to three counts of larceny by false pretenses in exchange for prosecutors dismissing multiple counts he used a computer to commit those crimes, according to the Press & Argus. According to a previous police report, Scott Alan Stead was accused of knowingly ordering replacement parts for computers using serial numbers from machines he did not own and then selling some of the parts for profit. The case involved more than $80,000 worth of fraudulent warranty replacement parts from the time period of August 2009 to August 2011. After further investigation, Hewlett Packard discovered the total loss amount for the computer parts was more than $160,000 and more than $7,000 in shipping costs. The…

On April 11, a Hartland woman reported a burglary at her home on the 2000 block of Sun Terrace Dr., according to a report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. Police say the woman returned home from work at 6 p.m. and noticed the jewelry box in her bedroom missing. The woman told police that nothing else in her home appeared to be disturbed. The homeowner also told police she thought the suspect may have entered her home using a spare key, which is kept under the doormat, because the key was found inside the house. A jewelry box containing nine pieces of jewelry was reported stolen.

A couple is suspected of stealing more than $500 worth of baby formula from the Hartland Walmart, according to a police report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. On April 13, police say a loss prevention officer for the store contacted police after reviewing security footage showing the suspects concealing cans of formula in a blue tote bag and placing them in a shopping cart. The suspects then separated, exited the store at different times and met up in the store parking lot where they loaded the items into a vehicle, according to the report. Livingston County officials say they are open to resuming talks about an extension of the Livingston County Sheriff's contract in Hartland Township, according to the Press & Argus. As Patch previously reported, for the past four decades, the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department has provided road patrol services with full-time deputies in Hartland and Tyrone Townships. But due to rising costs, Hartland Township declined a two-year extension to the contract in March, thus letting the contract expire. According to the Press & Argus, Hartland Township drafted a proposal last week that would have the township pay for the cost of one full deputy, as long as a second patrol car was made available to at no additional cost. Two “begging” suspects claiming to be veterans with disabilities were found to be in possession of crack cocaine and were arrested in the parking lot of the Hartland Target, according to a report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. On April 7, police responded to a 911 call around 4 p.m. at the Hartland Kroger’s regarding a possible welfare check scam. Police say they were given information for a suspect driving a car with a disabled vet license plate. Two Howell boys, ages 12 and 13, attempted to steal alcohol from the Hartland Meijer with the intent sell the liquor to teenagers, according to a police report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. Police say on March 26, the two juveniles took two bottles of Sky Vodka into the store bathroom along with a stolen set of Gerber knives to remove the security tags. The liquor was placed into backpacks and the two suspects attempted to leave the store without paying, according to the report. The 12-year-old suspect told police that the 13-year-old suspect said they could make $20 each for stealing the liquor for high school students. A 20-year-old male was seen running out of the Hartland Meijer without paying for a case of beer before tripping in the parking lot and dropping his cell phone and the alcohol. Police say on March 30, a store employee witnessed three males walking toward the exit when one of the suspects ran past her carrying a case of Bud Light beer. The man was barefooted, according to the report, and after tripping in the parking lot, the store employee recovered the suspect’s dropped cell phone. According to the report, the two men who were with the 20-year-old male later returned to the store in an attempt to retrieve the lost cell phone from the customer service desk, but were unsuccessful after they were unable to provide the correct phone number…

The thefts have occurred in Hartland, Howell, Brighton and Genoa townships
The Livingston County Sheriff’s office is investigating several thefts of catalytic converters in Hartland, Howell, Brighton and Genoa townships. The photo at right was taken from a Brighton Township storage facility where the suspect removed a catalytic converter from a parked car. Detectives believe that this vehicle could be connected to multiple thefts of catalytic converters in the Livingston County area. The suspect vehicle appears to be a Gold Chrysler Cirrus between the model years of 1996 and 2000.
