An 18-year-old Howell woman was arrested after her mother told police she had stolen a gold ring from her and $620 from her grandmother. A Livington County sheriff's deputy found the 18-year-old in Whitmore Lake on March 26, the same day her mother reported the theft. The girl admitted to stealing the ring and pawning it in Detroit. She also admitted to stealing the money and said she had already spent it, according to the police report. The 18-year-old told the deputy that she had used heroin about two hours before police found her, according to the report, and said she had a "severe heroin dependency." Three bottles of top shelf liquor were reported stolen from the Hartland Meijer, according to a report from the Livingston County Sheriff's Department. Police say a Meijer Loss Prevention employee found a cart with a box of empty liquor bottles and spider packaging while walking through the store on March 18. The Howell Ultra Diamond jewelry store was burglarized again earlier this month.
Police are asking for help identifying the the person responsible for stealing $230,000 worth of jewelry from the Howell Ultra Diamonds store in Tanger Outlet Mall on March 9. The Michigan State Police Brighton Post and Livingston County Sheriff's Department responded to the alarm around midnight to find the front door and glass cases broken out. Items stolen include pendents, rings, earrings and precious stones. This is the second time in several months the store has been burglarized. Nearly $80,000 worth of jewelry was stolen from the store in December. Susan Porter-Tyson of Linden was involved in a single vehicle personal injury crash near the intersection of Bennett Lake Road and Clairmont Drive in Deerfield Township.
A 46-year-old Linden woman died after her vehicle struck a tree in Deerfield Township on Sunday night. Susan Porter-Tyson was found trapped and non-responsive in her car around 10 p.m., according to a press release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. Rescue attempts were made, but police say they were unable to revive Porter-Tyson, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the woman was alone in the car and driving at a high rate of speed before losing control of the vehicle. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the report. Sara Rae Walters was sentenced to prison time for the abuse of her 3-year-old step-grandson.
A Livingston County Circuit Court judge has sentenced Sara Rae Walters to 10-15 years in prison for abusing her 3-year-old step-grandson, according to an article by WHMI 93.5 FM. Walters, of Oceola Township, reached a plea deal in February by pleading no contest on the charge of 1st Degree Child Abuse in exchange for prosecutors dropping the charge of torture. A no contest plea happens when the defendant neither admits nor disputes a charge. A no-contest plea, while not technically a guilty plea, has the same immediate effect as a guilty plea. A 47-year-old Howell woman was arrested on retail theft charges after trying to steal a box of weight loss pills from the Genoa Township Walmart on March 17, according to a Livingston County Sheriff's Department police report. The woman told police her 'old man' was giving her a hard time, calling her fat, so she took Lipozene and concealed it in her bra, the report said. A Walmart loss prevention employee said she saw the woman carry the box of Lipozene into the restroom and followed her in, then saw her carry an empty box out and set it on the water fountain. The Livingston County Sheriff’s Department is requesting the public’s help in identifying a suspect from a robbery that took place at the PNC Bank in Brighton on Monday. Police say the man entered the bank around 9:40 a.m. with a semi-automatic handgun and demanded money. The man ran away, according to a press release, with an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect is described by police as being small in stature, around 5’6’’, and wore dark sunglasses and a scarf-type garment around his mouth. A Brighton woman is suspected to stealing more than $300 worth of merchandise from the Kohl’s store in Howell, according to a report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. Police say on Feb. 12, an employee noticed the suspect enter the store with two large bags and after observing the woman, saw her conceal items from the store into the bags and attempt of remove electronic items from their packaging. The suspect was stopped before she was able to leave the store, placed under arrest for retail fraud and transported to the Livingston County jail without incident, according to the report. An employee of the Dream Factory in Brighton reported money and other items stolen from her purse by a customer, according to a police report from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Department. Police say the employee allowed a customer to use the store’s bathroom where the employee kept her purse in the sink. According to the report, the employee does not typically allow customers to use the shop bathroom, but told police the man was “shaking” because he had to use the facilities. After the customer left the store, police say the employee immediately checked her purse and discovered her wallet missing.
