Hartland Schools sent out a Facebook message to parents regarding the morning school closings on Tuesday.
With a hectic weather-related school closing on Tuesday morning following bus delays and the late closing of Farms Intermediate and all the elementary schools, some questioned the school-closing procedures in Hartland Schools. In response, Hartland sent out a message to parents on their school Facebook page: Hartland Schools would like to thank parents for their patience today. In typical Michigan fashion, the weather and road conditions changed dramatically between 4:00 - 6:00 a.m., particularly on the many dirt roads in the district, creating extremely difficult commutes for our high school and middle school buses. Due to icy back roads in the area, some schools are closed for the day. As of 7:40 a.m., Hartland Consolidated Schools officially canceled classes for Farms Intermediate and all the elementary schools due to hazardous road conditions.

The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory in effect through 6 a.m. Monday.
Hartland Consolidated Schools will be closed Monday due to a mixture of snow and ice that hit southeastern Michigan Sunday night. All school activities and events are cancelled. Brighton Area Schools, FlexTech High, Livingston ESA, Howell Public Schools, Pinckney Community Schools, St. Mary School-Pinckney and Kensington Woods High will also be closed. The National Weather Service issued a Winter Weather Advisory, in effect until 6 a.m. Monday. According to the NWS, ice accumulations of up to a tenth of an inch are possible, mainly on elevated surfaces. School shooting prank occurs at Grand Blanc East High School Wednesday. All Genesee County Schools closed Thursday and Friday.
Potential post-Sandy Hook threats and the hype surrounding Dec. 21 being the end of world have been spreading through Genesee County and the surrounding areas. The threats led the Genesee Intermediate School District to cancel classes in all Genesee County Schools Thursday and Friday as threats of all kinds have been popping up in school districts across the state. Local schools, including Lake Fenton and Fenton have stepped up security and have had an increased police presence in the days following the Sandy Hook shooting in Newtown, Conn. There have been no reported incident or threats at those schools, but there have been several in the region and all Genesee County and Lapeer County Schools have been closed for Thursday and Friday.
