Walk-in registration takes place March 9 and 16 at Hartland Middle School.
Walk-in registration will take place for all returning and new HAYAA football players in grades first through eighth on Saturday, March 9 and Saturday, March 16 at the Hartland Middle School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. According to the HAYAA website, the price to play is $215 and $205 for each additional family member. A $200 deposit check is required for equipment and volunteer time – will not be cashed unless equipment is not returned and/or volunteer time not completed. By Danna Castillo The 2013 Michigan High School Boardercross State Finals were held at Alpine Valley on Friday. Teams from the East and West leagues in Michigan competed in some of the best snow conditions in the last two seasons, thanks to Winter Storm Nemo. There was no shortage of close races and big crashes. Several riders were taken off the course and taken to nearby Huron Valley hospital for crash related injuries. After Districts, Regional's and Individual Time trials Livingston County teams fared well. The West Division was able to qualify three teams in a five- team competition in both the Ladies and Boys divisions. Sean Pengelly signed his letter of intent for Michigan Tech on Wednesday.
After changing his attitude, Hartland High School senior Sean Pengelly says he “decided” to be better after being one of the slowest runners in middle school. “I just kept working at it,” Pengelly said. “I was sick of being slow and I just worked at it more.” On Wednesday, Pengelly proved what hard work and a positive attitude could accomplish as he officially signed his letter of intent to run cross county for Michigan Tech. “I didn’t really think about running in college until the beginning of my junior year,” he said. “I really like the team aspect of it.” Hartland’s cross country coach, Matt Gutteridge says Pengelly’s chosen school will be a “right fit” for the young runner. “I am very proud of Sean and excited for him,” Gutteridge …

Signing their letters of intent together, seven Hartland soccer players commit to their chosen colleges.
After years of playing together, seven young soccer players signed their letters of intent together on Wednesday making them one of largest groups Hartland High School varsity soccer coach Andrew Kartsounes says he has seen in his years coaching. “I’m not sure we’ve had seven total in the years I’ve been around that have gone to the next level,” he said. “Just the number of them and the dedication to the sport is just fantastic.” During the letter signings, Hartland Athletic Director Jason Reck told the audience of family members that the seven young women had "made Hartland a better place." Top Hartland riders for both the Mens and the Womens team have returned and continue to lead the way. 2013 State placers include: Some of the teams that compete each week at Mt. Hartland senior Samantha Dibert has committed to Lourdes University for volleyball.
With her family and friends as witnesses and unable to contain her big grin, Hartland High School senior Samantha Dibert signed her Letter of Intent on Tuesday afternoon. The volleyball player has committed to play for Lourdes University in Ohio, a school that appealed to the Hartland senior because of its size and academic offerings. “They’re like their own little community,” Dibert said. “And I just wanted to know everybody and I didn’t want a big, huge school.” Recommended by her high school coach, Lourdes University volleyball coach Greg Reitz said it is Dibert’s athletic ability that makes her so appealing as a new addition to his team. “She can jump well and she has the potential to get better on some of the skills she hasn’t used as…

Hartland High School raises more than $2,000 for the Wounded Warriors Project.
Hartland wrestlers battled it out on the mats Friday afternoon, helping to raise money for a good cause. Competing in front of their whole school in a spirit assembly/dual meet, the team welcomed Chippewa Hills while raising money to help support the Wounded Warriors Project. Each year, wrestling coach Todd Cheney picks an organization to raise money for, and this year, according to Atheltic Director Jason Reck, the charity that helps support returning veterans and their families was suggested. “This is a charity that’s very important to me as a veteran,” Reck said. “So I suggested it and he (Cheney) ran with it.” The fundraiser was a success, according to Reck, with Hartland raising more than $2,000 and Chippewa Hills donating $100 to the…

They enjoy giving the gifts as well, but let’s be honest; most are really excited about receiving the gifts. So in light of the giving season what should every girl be asking for this season? Lacrosse equipment for the spring season! Okay, maybe not all girls have that at the top of their wish list, but I know a lot that do. Why is that? Last season our girls from Hartland High School made it to the State Championship game and brought a lot of excitement to our community. They played hard and came up a little short, but it wasn’t because they lacked effort. In July, the high school girls hosted a free clinic for K-8 players …
