On a quiet December evening, approximately 75 Hartland residents came together on the lawn of the Cromaine District Library to mourn the loss of the innocent lives lost during the Sandy Hook Elementary shootings. "I just want to say to you, thank you for showing heart," Terry Prisk, pastor of The River Church said to the crowd on Wedesday. "It's good sometimes to just pause and say, what are we doing in this life?" Performing during the vigil were Mary Jo Bell, Walter Johnston and Trey McLaughlin. Event organizers, Jenifer Thomas, Amy O'Dea and John Miller read the names of the 26 victims to the somber audience and then led them in a version of Silent Night. The Hartland community will be hosting a candlelight vigil and accepting donations to send to the victims of the Newtown shootings.

On Friday, the nation’s hearts broke as word spread of a tragic massacre involving the shooting deaths of 26 people, including 20 elementary-aged children in Connecticut. All across the county, the suffering felt by the parents, children, teachers and community of Newtown affected much of the world that watched helplessly from far away. This week, the Hartland community is organizing a candlelight vigil to help residents mourn and pay their respects to the families affected by the tragedy thousands of miles away and close to home. The vigil will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 19 on the south lawn of the Cromaine Library, village location.
