Warm Up with Cowboy Casserole

Fight off the below-freezing temps with this warm dish of comfort food.

On days like today, there is nothing better than a nice warm casserole. Casseroles are easy to make, can feed a crowd and are especially nice on days when you want to stay inside by the fire. This recipe for cowboy casserole comes from the blog The Cutting Edge of Ordinary and it serves approximately 12. To make this you'll need: To start, take the tater tots out of the freezer and defrost them for an hour or so. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. After an hour, chop the onion and cook it in a large skillet until translucent. Add the chopped garlic and cook for 1 minute more. Then, add the beef and cook over medium heat until no longer pink. Drain the mixture and place into a large bowl and set aside. In a small bowl combine the soup, milk …

Recipe: Cider Braised Chicken Thighs With Sweet Potatoes

Warm up this winter with a tasty dish full of seasonal flavors.

During the bland months of winter I like to eat foods with a lot of flavor, so I tend to cook recipes that are hearty and will make my taste-buds dance. This recipe for cider braised chicken thighs has a lot of delicious flavors. The cider adds a subtle sweetness to the chicken, and the spices, along with the cider, create a great sauce. This dish is also fairly healthy and a great meal for anyone trying to keep that New Year's Resolution. To make this recipe you'll need: To start, season both sides of the chicken with 1 teaspoon salt and pepper. Heat the oil in a large nonstick skillet over high heat. Brown the chicken in batches, flipping once, about 2 minutes per side; set aside. Next, reduce the heat to medium and add the shallots and …

Keep Warm During the Winter With This Delicious Beef Stew

This recipe from Williams-Sonoma's Comfort Food cookbook is a family favorite during the winter months.

When it starts to get cold out there is nothing better for dinner than a nice, hearty stew. One of my favorite stews comes from the Williams-Sonoma Comfort Food cookbook. The recipe, called hearty beef stew, has a delicious sauce and the beef is nice and tender. For extra flavor I like to add sauteed mushrooms and a dash of red wine to the recipe. To make this recipe you'll need: To start, cook the bacon in the oil in a large Dutch oven over medium heat. Once the bacon is crisp and brown, used a slotted spoon to remove it from the pot. Place on paper towel to drain and set aside. Pour the fat from the pot into a heat-safe bowl. Return two tablespoons of fat to the pot and heat over medium-high heat. Add the beef cubes and brown, season …

Warm Your Bones with this French Beef Stew

The perfect meal for a cold day, this stew tastes even better warmed up the next day.

There is nothing I love more than a good stew, so when I was going through all my wedding gifts and organizing my new cookbooks, I decided to take a break and look for a new recipe to try. With this most recent cold snap, I've been craving a hearty stew. My new French cookbook has a wonderful recipe that allowed me to use up a bottle of wine that's been sitting on my counter for months (I'm not a wine person) and also satisfy my tastebuds. To make this recipe, you'll need the following: In a Dutch oven or other heavy pot, warm the oil over medium heat. Add the onions and garlic and saute until the onion is nearly translucent. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the onion and garlic to a large plate. Raise the heat to medium-high and add the …
