Hartland Firefighter Has Chance to Sing for Detroit Tigers

Hartland firefighter Walter Johnston made it to the top ten in the Detroit Tigers "Home of the Brave" National Anthem contest.

Proving he can sing with the best of them, Hartland's own Walter Johnston has made it to the Top Ten in the Home of Brave National Anthem contest sponsored by the Detroit Tigers and Comerica Bank.

Johnston, a firefighter for the Hartland-Deerfield Area Fire Department and a 2010 Hartland High School graduate, was also a runner-up in the 2012 Livingston County Singing Sensation competition.

Voting for the Top Ten Sung Heroes in the Home of the Brave National Anthem Singing Contest will be open until Sept. 14 when one lucky hometown hero will be offered the opportunity to sing the National Anthem the Detroit Tigers game on Sept. 22.

The winner will announced on Sept. 16 and will also receive 40 tickets to the game and a $10,000 grant to the winner’s police or fire station, according to a press release from Comerica.
