Mother Runs Over Young Son With Van in Howell

Police say a 27-year-old mother from Flat Rock ran over her 4-year-old son after he fell out of a slow moving van at a camp ground in Howell.

A mother ran over her young son after he fell out of a slow moving vehicle on Wednesday, police say.

The 4-year-old was transported to University of Michigan where is in stable but serious condition, according to the press release from the Livingston County Sheriff's Department.

The incident took place at the Water's Edge Camp Ground in Howell and police say the 27-year-old Flat Rock woman had her three children unrestrained in the rear of her 2012 Dodge Caravan with the sliding doors open left open.

Witnesses told police that the van was moving at a very slow speed as it traveled toward the front of the camp ground to drop off garbage. According to the report, the 4-year-old boy fell from the car and was run over before the vehicle had a chance to stop.

Police say alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor but the incident remains under investigation.
