Portion of Livingston County Highway being dedicated in honor of Sgt. Patrick O'Rourke

Patrick O'Rourke, the West Bloomfield Township police officer who was killed in the line of duty in September, 2012 will be remembered by having a portion of Old U.S. 23 renamed in his honor.  

On Sept. 13, the Sgt. Patrick O 'Rourke Memorial Highway will be dedicated to the 1991 Hartland High School graduate.

State Rep. Cindy Denby began the dedication process with the assistance of Michael Craine, managing director of the Livingston County Road Commission, according to a press release and private funding for the sign was arranged by Denby and state Sen. Joe Hune.

"Sgt. O'Rourke was a dedicated officer and I am happy his legacy is being honored," said Denby, R-Fowlerville. "This sign will be a visual reminder to everyone who passes of his service as well as all the other law enforcement officers that put their lives on the line for us every day."

The sign will be unveiled with Sgt. O'Rourke's family on Sept. 13 at 9 a.m. on Old U.S. 23 just south of Center Street. There will be another sign placed visible to those traveling north on Old 23 just north of M-59.
